A battery, defined in the dictionary, is a device that converts chemical energy directly into electrical energy. The first ever chemical battery – voltaic pile – was developed by Italian physicist, Alessandro Volta (1745–1827). The unit of measurement of the battery is Voltage (that is measured in Volts). We can divide batteries into two main categories: Primary or non-rechargeable batteries and Secondary or rechargeable batteries. The sizes of a 12-volt battery can greatly vary based on the ampere (measure of the amount of electric charge passing a point per unit time) per hour that they must generate.
