Moto GP – Spaniards taking over
With just eight more stages ahead, the Spanish riders: Lorenzo, Elias, and Marquez lead their respective categories and have the opportunity to accomplish a treble for their country.
The Spanish Athletes Armada continues conquering sports, now the time seems to have come to Moto GP, where the wind keeps on blowing on their favor, and a historic treble from its riders: Jorge Lorenzo, Toni Elias, and Marc Marquez, is becoming more of a reality than a dream stage after stage. Their next stop is the Indianapolis Grand Prix this coming Sunday 29th, a racetrack that entered the circuit on September 14, 2008, and only has two editions disputed. From the three Spanish riders, only Jorge Lorenzo has been able to finish in first place. This happened in 2009.
Two of them, Lorenzo and Elias, have been able to attain a significant amount of points that gives them a fair enough error margin among their competitors. Specifically, Lorenzo enjoys a 77-point difference over Dani Pedrosa, his most serious opponent in the Moto GP class. In the Moto2 class the scenario for Elias is very similar to that of his fellow Spaniard, as he has a 55-point lead over Andrea Iannone. Only Marquez has no margin error, as his persecutors Pol Espargaro and Nicolas Terol follow him very closely, with just a 15 and 23 point difference between them. Despite this situation, Marquez doesn't risk the possibility of the treble, since both Espargaro and Terol are Spanish.
Marquez is not at his 100%, as he is still healing from a shoulder dislocation suffered in Brno, which significantly affected his performance, putting an end to his 5 race winning strike, to finish in seventh place. The Indianapolis circuit makes Marquez feel comfortable, although he still doesn't know how he is going to feel on his bike during the weekend, but said he will try "to not commit mistakes". His goal for this race is to make it back to the podium and add more points to his season.
Lorenzo is cautious about the race, as he doesn't want to take big risks, because it is not necessary to do so. And yet his goal will be the same as any other race: to finish as high in the podium as it is possible. His sensations for this race are good, since he still has a fresh memory from last year's race, where he came in firsts. And he has more reasons to do so, because about one month ago he finished in first place in Laguna Seca, the other American racetrack in the circuit. Anxiety might be his only obstacle from now until the end of the championship, as he could be the first Spaniard in history to win a Moto GP title.
Toni Elias doesn't want relaxation to cost him the championship, and is very focused on this race, aware that there is still more competition ahead. Right now he is in a very happy mood and motivated after his victory in Brno, which placed him on top of the standings. He knows that this race is vital for his aspirations to win the championship, and so he will face it with much seriousness.
