Well, there are many advantages and disadvantages of using second hand tools and equipment. Advantages are that most of the time they are affordable and you can save lot of money as compared to the brand new ones. If you do decide to buy a used item, chances are that you may not be comfortable in buying from private owner. In such a scenario, you can search and visit second hand stores. They may also get some kind of warranty on the used items. If you are a first time tool buyer, it is highly recommended that you buy a used one at an affordable price. By the time you get comfortable using the tools you own, you can buy a brand new one.

There certainly are some disadvantages of buying seond hand tools and equipments. If you choose to buy it from individual owner, you never know if they are telling you about the exact condition of the item. It could be that the tools are not in such a mint condition that you were told in the first place. You can save yourself from such disappointment if you buy it from someone who is local. You can also take someone with you who is knowledgeable about the tools and can ask the seller a lot of questions. If you think that the tool is highly damaged, you should be in a condition to refuse to buy. If it is small wear and tear, then it shouldn't really matter because it is expected from used stuff. If it is functioning properly, then you shouldn't be concerned.
