Viztek PACS: What Is It And How Can It Help Small And Mid-Sized Medical Facilities

Medical facilities of all sizes are moving to digital medical imaging because it is a cost-effective way to handle patient medical images.  It also makes it much simpler to comply with HIPPA regulations regarding the storage and archiving of patient medical images.  In order to take your medical facility in this direction, you will want to consider adding a PACS, or Picture Archiving and Communication System.  There are several good brands of PACS available, including Viztek PACS, Agfa pacs and Kodak pacs.

PACS are basically software and servers that are used for archiving, viewing and distribution of digital medical images.  A PACS takes images from different modalities, such at CT, MRI, mammographies and others, and uses a secure network to transmit the digital images to workstations, where the digital images can be viewed, stored and retrieved.  The format used for these types of medical images is known as DICOM, or Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine.  Although PACS and DICOM had formerly been available only to the largest hospitals because the cost was high, with technology prices in all areas dropping, currently small and mid-sized medical facilities can find affordable PACS solutions that work for your specific needs.

Viztek PACS is one excellent system currently available.  Known as the Viztek Opal Rad, this system allows you to delve into the area of teleradiology, because Viztek Opal Rad will function as a web server.  This allows authorized personnel to remotely access digital images and digital reports, a huge time and work saver.  HIPPA compliance is also built into the Viztek PACS system through individual usernames and passwords for each authorized user, as well as the 128-bit secure socket layer encryption.  A web-based server is an option that you can choose to increase the versatility of your medical facility's PACS system.

Another benefit that comes from using the Viztek Opal Rad PACS involves customization and image manipulation.  Viztek PACS allows you to compress studies at your discretion to shorten the load times.  Use image manipulation tools to zoom, rotate, adjust the window and level and more with Viztek PACS.

Other excellent options for PACS systems include the Agfa pacs and Kodak pacs.  Agfa pacs works with the Agfa CR image acquisition system, which allows you to create digital medical images, even while using your existing radiology equipment in a retrofit situation.  The Kodak CR system offers another affordable package that allows you to capture and view medical digital images.
