Top 4 Tips Air Conditioners For Better Home Humidity
Humidity creates a lot of issues in people's homes. Too much causes mold, too little can be a health hazard, and very uncomfortable. The humidity controls and some straightforward management of local conditions can turn your air conditioner into a mold preventer and avoid the bone dry effect of summer.
Humidity- Risks and issues
Some humidity is natural, but too much is a real potential problem in several ways. Humidity can promote rapid mold growth. Molds can affect quality of life, causing allergic reactions in some people and other health issues. Molds can also damage property, requiring extensive and often expensive repairs. Some molds can actually destroy beams and furniture.
Excessive humidity can affect human health, causing dehydration, if combined with heat and not drinking enough fluids. Dehydration can be a serious problem for older, less mobile people and young kids. There's a range of possible effects, some of which may require hospitalization.
Too dry? Risk prevention
On the other end of the scale, air being too dry is also a real problem. Some residences are naturally dry and dusty. This can also cause dehydration, with similar risk groups. Being too dry can aggravate breathing problems like sinus and some types of allergic reaction where lack of moisture causes additional complications. In hot conditions, dryness also increases the demand on the body for temperature control, causing more loss of water.
Figuring out what humidity level you need
The solution to both problems is air conditioning with humidity controls. The exact level of humidity you need is a matter of personal taste and preferred environment.
You can check humidity options systematically:
- It's a good idea to start with a medium setting, which is an average moisture content level.
- To get an idea of the air conditioner's capabilities, then try the Dry setting.
- Try a few points either side of the medium level.
- Try the settings with heat and cooling systems.
This will give you some benchmarks to work with, and help find your preferred settings quickly.
- To keep an eye on humidity levels: any mold is a telltale sign of excessive humidity. The right levels will not encourage mold growth.
- To monitor the Dry cycle:
- The Dry cycle should progressively kill off molds over time. You should see a noticeable reduction in any areas affected, and no regrowth.
- If you sense any irritation, or if you're coughing or your sinus reacts badly, it's too dry. Adjust the humidity levels until you're comfortable and the reactions have ceased.
Top brands- Finding the best
Top names in air conditioning like Panasonic and Mitsubishi air conditioners are your first best option to check out what's available for humidity control. New designs are always worth investigating for their new features.
These air conditioners aren't really expensive, either, and you can find a good new air con unit which will handle humidity effectively with no fuss. Ask about the humidity control features, to compare your selections.

The essence of command is leadership, and your example will set the standard for your entire organization. For this reason, command is reserved for those individuals exhibiting only the highest levels of integrity, selflessness, and excellence. Leadership is not accomplished from behind the desk or by way of E-mail; rather, effective leadership requires you to lead from out front. Immerse yourself in the available training to ensure you fully understand the rules of engagement. There is much to learn from the insights, experiences, and recommendations of previous commanders. Lt Col Jeff Smith's Commanding an Air Force Squadron in the Twenty-First Century provides some excellent perspectives from current and graduated commanders to help set your course and prepare you for the best job in the Air Force.
