At one point or another when you own a vehicle you will most likely need to replace a windshield.  You can’t help it when a rock is kicked up by another vehicle in front of you and your windshield gets a chip or crack in it.  Arizona seems to have a lot of these problems, because there is a lot of debris and pebbles lying on the road.

You can be confident in the fact that your windshield in a new car is very safe, and at most times if you buy a used car as long as the original glass is still in the car it should be safe too.  However, when you need to replace a windshield can you always know that the replacement is up to the safety standards?
There have been many incidents in which a windshield was replaced incorrectly or not with the right safety glass.  In these cases if a person is in an accident they may have died or been seriously injured.  All of this could have been avoided with the proper replacement being done.
If you happen to get a chip or crack in your windshield it is important that you go and have this fixed as quickly as possible.  If you windshield is cracked or chipped it will directly affect the safety of the glass.  Plus if you wait the crack may get larger and you will need to replace the full windshield instead of getting a repair which would cost you a lot less money.
When you go to find a place to fix your windshield you should determine that they have several years of experience.  Check to see what type of glass is available for your vehicle.  Will they use a name brand or go with a generic glass.  What kind of urethane will they use to fix the windshield, make sure that they will not use butel; this is a substance that will never completely harden.  Make sure if the moldings are old or cracked that these are also replaced. 

You should try and make sure that when they start your repair that they prime the location.  The technicians should also wear gloves when they are doing the work.  After the replacement the tech should also look over the repair to make sure it has set into place correctly.  Most adhesives will take up to 48 hours to dry completely.
