The very practical Skoda
There are a fair few manufacturers that would like the nod of approval from car journalist Jeremy Clarkson, a vote of confidence from Clarkson is like gold dust! The Skoda Roomster, the unusual looking MPV was on Jeremy Clarkson's "inexpensive, but nice" list, so there must be something about the Roomster.
The Skoda Roomster was introduced in 2006, it was the first car not entirely based on an existing VW platform after the German brands takeover of Skoda. The Roomster competes in the same market as the Nissan Note, Vauxhall Meriva and Citroen C3 Picasso.
On the inside, Skoda has designed the interior in a way that the Roomster can have different configurations based on the user's requirements. The rear 'VarioFlex' seat arrangement which are taller than the front seats, can be folded in a 40-20-40 split configuration, rather than the more usual 40-60, and can also be moved longitudinally and transversally. The rear seats also fold flat giving the Roomster enough luggage space to fit an adult bicycle.
The Roomster takes its engines from the VW group; there are a few to choose from including some 1.2 litre petrol units with or without turbo power. There are two 1.6 litre turbo diesel units too, the diesel engines are probably better suited if you intend on carrying heavy goods or five passengers regularly. The 69bhp petrol engine on paper seems a little under powered, but the 1.2 litre turbocharged units should have enough power to haul the Roomster along.
Due to its square shape and high roof line the Roomster does roll around a fair bit around corners, especially if taken fast. This is offset by a lot of grip and a surprisingly sharp and responsive steering. The ride in the Skoda MPV is very comfortable, it cruises along over potholes and bumps not causing too much commotion. For practicality and value for money there really isn't much better car than a <a href="http://www.slaters.com/skoda/used-cars/Skoda/ROOMSTER">used Skoda Roomster in Rhyl</a>.
