Why You Need OBD Readers?

OBD was introduced many years ago but the initial version couldn't take off due to the absence of a standard format. In 1996 the second version of this was introduced i.e. OBD-2. This has come in a standard format and with many countries making it mandatory these come in as in-built device.

Now what is OBD? OBD is the abbreviation used for a device called On-Board Diagnostic, which is fitted in a car. As the name suggests it is used to diagnose any problems that may occur in your vehicle. Its check up includes almost every part of the vehicle including the Engine, Body, Chassis, Power and fuel supply system etc.

OBD readers or Scanners as they are normally called are devices that are used to covert the reports produced by the OBDs to a human readable format.

Why you need an OBD and an OBD readers

As these OBDs are always on the alert and keep a constant vigil on all the parts, even a minor change in the smooth functioning of the engine, full throttle warning, engine overload, variation in the coolant temperature are immediately reported. This helps the user in taking preventive measures and avoids it to become a major breakdown.

At times it happens so that there is a minor loose connection due to which the power connection goes off and the engine doesn't budge even a bit. We suddenly panic and call for a mechanic. The mechanic comes in his own sweet time, searches for major problems and then comes to the minor ones. Finally when he detects, you would realize that you have lost considerable amount of time, money and over and above, you lost your cool mind. Is it necessary to waste all these precious things? Not at all. Instead, go for an OBD and be tension free. And along with it save your time, energy and money.

When you are on the drive, it helps you detect the speed of the vehicle, Engine's RPM, air status and even the engine load. This helps you in maintaining all the relevant speed within limits so that you do not overload your engine and weaken it.

It also keeps a regular watch on the vehicle's emission level. This enables you to keep the vehicle within the compliance level.

The OBD gives out the report in a alpha numerical code that is normally not understandable in normal parlance. To know the meaning of it the OBD Reader or Scanner is fitted along with the OBD. It converts these codes, making it possible for the common man to know what the report is all about.

Normally the alphabets P, B, C, and U are used in a standard manner. While P stands for Power System, B stands for the Body, C for Chassis and U for Undefined meaning other problems not relating to the above three. And the numerical code combinations vary depending upon the problems. And thus to find this out the OBD Readers are used.
