Why You Need a Custom Steering Wheel

Few accessories can change the look of a car's interior quite so effectively as a new steering wheel.  However, looks aren't the only reason that you should install a new steering wheel. Depending on your application, your new wheel can give you greater performance, an easier turning radius to negotiate and other benefits.

Vehicles –

Tuner Cars: For tuner cars, a performance (race inspired) steering wheel is the only way to go.  You'll find a wide array of styles and finishes to choose from, as well as other options.  Race inspired steering wheels have a smaller diameter than your OEM wheel, which makes tight turns, handling on the road and even regular driving easier to handle. Custom options, such as neon wires can be added or you can purchase wheels with them already installed, for your convenience.

Trucks and RVs: Stock steering wheels in trucks and RVs are usually a touch to small and pretty bland, to boot.  Wood grain steering wheels, leather wrapped wheels and larger steering wheels all offer numerous benefits over stock wheels.  Several manufacturers offer custom steering wheels for trucks and RVs, though Grant is one of the dominant manufacturers in the marketplace. You'll also find race-inspired steering wheels for trucks and RVs.

Passenger Cars: Passengers cars can also benefit from custom steering wheels.  Numerous styles and diameters are available, depending on whether you want race styles or luxurious comfort.  Leather wrapped wheels are a great option for any passenger car that is driven frequently.

Leather Wrapped: Leather wrapped steering wheels are luxurious and comfortable, fit for a refined sports car, RV, luxury passenger car and many other vehicles.

Tips –

To successfully install your new steering wheel, you'll need a couple of tools and some information.  While the process is not difficult, it can be tricky if you have never done it before.  You will need a wheel puller, first.  You can purchase or rent one from most local auto part stores.  Remove the center cover of the steering wheel and you'll find the large nut holding the wheel in place.  You'll also find the wiring harness for the cable reel.  Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the nut and you'll be on your way.  The wheel puller is used last, during the actual removal of the wheel.
