Holdem starting hands position have three types. They are the early position, the middle position and the late position. Position in poker refers to where a player sits in reference to other players. The term I’ve got position on you means that this players is sitting to your left, and will always act after you. Position is also used to define the player sits relative to the dealer.

First and foremost it is important to learn which starting hands are worth staying in with and which you should fold in playing Texas holdem poker. You must decide whether the two cards being dealt to you are playable or not. The two hole or pocket cards are the only thing that will make your hand better or worse than other players. It’s very advantageous if it’s a pair of strong cards.

Play only the cards in the 10 best lists and always fold the hands in the worst hands list. This will improve your game results. However you need to vary your starting hand selection standards depending on your poker position in order to succeed as Texas holdem player.

It is best to play the high pairs, high suited and high unsuited cards in early position. Examples of high pairs are Ace-Ace, King-King, Queen-Queen and Jack-Jack. The high suited cards are Ace-King, Ace-Queen, King-Queen, Ace-Jack, King-Jack, and Queen-Jack. And the high unsuited cards are Ace-King, Ace-Queen, and King-Queen.

In the middle position you can also play high suited cards like Ace-10, King-10, and Queen-10. You can also play unsuited cards like Ace-Jack, Ace-10, King-Jack, etc., as well as the middle pairs like 10-10, 9-9, and 8-8. You can use suited connectors like 9-10, 7-8, etc., small pairs all the way down to 2’s and Ace-littles like A-8 and A-6. These all can be played in the late position.
