Skimoil: Specialty--- Floating Oil Skimmers
Oil skimmers are used to remove free and floating oil from water.
Oil water separators are flow thru devices to remove oil from a moving water stream.
SkimOil, Inc. is a specialty design/builder that has all technologies available for skimming floating oils, fuels, fats and grease from the surface of water. All of SkimOil oil skimmers are well proven, state of the art and highly specialized systems used extensively in the steel, WWT, power plant, manufacturing and petroleum industries across the globe. Oil in water is a big part of the industrial processing world.
Oil skimming for industrial purposes (except the steel industry*) and inland water spill response is generally done by one of the two following methods:
1. Selective oil skimming which exposes an oil attracting plastic or metal (i.e. belt, drum, disc, tube or rope mop) to the oil on the surface of the water. Always motor driven, this media once coated with oil, is then wiped, wrung or scraped off for transfer of oil by gravity draining or by pumping to storage. This method is highly selective and delivers relatively little water with the oil. When these selective skimmers are running in wall to wall oil, they will actually pull the oil into the skimmer, much like you could pull a carpet across a room. These skimmers must be in oil to work, and are the most efficient oil skimmers known on Earth.
2. Gravity oil skimming is done by taking advantage of the difference in specific gravity between oil and water. Most oils are lighter than and float on water. Gravity oil skimming includes adjustable standpipes, fixed overflow weirs and floating weir oil skimmers. Gravity oil skimming can also remove scum, floc, vegetation like seaweed and algae, foam and some floating junk. All gravity oil skimmers are overflow weirs. Best of all, SkimOil, Inc. can also set up gravity oil skimmers to skim below the surface. Floating weir oil skimmers (FWS) can be installed almost anywhere you have the room, hook a hose to it, put it in the water and start pumping liquid from the skimmer. These are the only skimmers in the world that can collect light sheen. FWS skimmers are true surface skimmers.
These floating weir oil skimmers create a depression or low spot in the water, so whatever is on the surface will run into it. It actually allows you to drain an area from the top down, skimming whatever is on the surface. This is generally non-selective, and removes a good amount of water with the oil since the water is actually the carrier of the oil over the weir. This water can often be decanted back to source, but can cause treatment and/or storage problems if it is to be discharged. Oil Water Separators are often used. SkimOil, Inc.’s floating weir type skimmers are often used for skimming floating ash, plastic, scum, floc, duckweed, algae and water meal from water impoundments.
These FWS floating weir skimmers are great for spill response---they are lightweight, easy to deploy and use, plus they have a variable recovery rate (10-400 gpm) that makes them the true utility workhorse for surface skimming from water.
All of SkimOil, Inc.’s skimmers are quality made in the USA and are furnished to solve specific oil removal problems through the use of its specialty, unique and innovative technologies and equipment that can be used for oil removal under almost any conditions. Every industrial skimming job is different and requires a unique approach.
SkimOil does oil skimmers every day ----and has found that each successful industrial skimming job requires application specific knowledge and specialized equipment options.
SkimOil, Inc.’s skimmers can be furnished as complete systems, complete with pumps and hoses.
Expert oil skimming consulting and application engineering help is available.

Oil & Water $18.55 When ten Oregonians travel to the Gulf Coast in August 2010 to plumb the devastation wrought by the Deepwater Horizon spill, they discover that Oil and Water is just the first of the insoluble contradictions. Between the tarred sands of Grand Isle and the fouled waters of the Louisiana bayou, they come to find out that Gulf Coast residents are economically dependent upon the very industry that is wreaking havoc on their environment. In the shadow of the greatest ecological disaster of our time, they are forced to reassess their roles as witness, critic and environmental steward. In this 120-page graphic novel written by Steve Duin, a columnist for The Oregonian, and illustrated by New Yorker cartoonist Shannon Wheeler readers will tour the shark-pocked beach at Grand Isle with the local head of Homeland Security; step aboard the crabbing boat of a 20-year-old Mississippian who works 16-hour days and spends his nights dreaming of M.I.T.; enter the Hot Zone where volunteers work desperately to save brown pelicans drenched in British petroleum; and hear shrimpers, Vietnamese and good ol boys alike, describe what happens to their livelihood when 200 million gallons of oil flood the scene. Oil on Water - $19.99 The passionate romance between a talented young journalist and her eccentric lover slowly begins to buckle under the weight of mental illness in this haunting psychological drama from first time feature filmmaker Peter Matthews. When Anna and Max first met, the skilled writer who had been abandoned by her father as a young girl believed she had found everything she could ever want in a man. As their relationship grew increasingly intense, Anna slowly lets her guard down while allowing Max's love to wash over her body and soul. Eventually, Max begins to withdraw emotionally for reasons that he cannot fathom or explain. When these strange symptoms begin to manifest themselves in Max's art, Anna reluctantly confronts her lover despite a lingering fear that their relationship will dissolve in the process. In the aftermath, Anna's unraveling begins to mirror Max's mental disintigration, leaving her with no other way to deal with her emotional pain other than through her writing. Over the course of the next five months, the details of the uncertain relationship become increasingly vivid in Anna's poignant and melancholy musings. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

Water $12.99 Far more than oil, the control of water wealth throughout history has been pivotal to the rise and fall of great powers, the achievements of civilization, the transformations of society's vital habitats, and the quality of ordinary daily lives. In Water, Steven Solomon offers the first-ever narrative portrait of the power struggles, personalities, and breakthroughs that have shaped humanity from antiquity's earliest civilizations, the Roman Empire, medieval China, and Islam's golden age to Europe's rise, the steam-powered Industrial Revolution, and America's century. Today, freshwater scarcity is one of the twenty-first century's decisive, looming challenges and is driving the new political, economic, and environmental realities across the globe. As modern society runs short of its most indispensable resource and the planet's renewable water ecosystems grow depleted, an explosive new fault line is dividing humanity into water Haves and Have-nots. Genocides, epidemic diseases, failed states, and civil warfare increasingly emanate from water-starved, overpopulated parts of Africa and Asia. Water famines threaten to ignite new wars in the bone-dry Middle East. Faltering clean water supplies menace the sustainable growth and ability of China and India to feed themselves. Water scarcity is inseparably interrelated to the global crises of energy, food, and climate change. For Western democracies, water represents no less than the new oil—demanding a major rethink of basic domestic and foreign policies—but also offering a momentous opportunity to relaunch wealth and global leadership through exploiting a comparative advantage in freshwater reserves. Meticulously researched and masterfully written, Steven Solomon's Water is a groundbreaking account of man's most critical resource in shaping human destinies, from ancient times to our dawning age of water scarcity. |
