On Board Diagnostics or OBD in the field of automobiles is considered as a general term that pertains to the self-diagnostic and reporting capabilities of the vehicles. OBD allows the owners of vehicles to know the current health status of their cars. The extent of vehicle's health information that the owner can access depends on the type of OBD attached. The first model which was produced in the first part of 1980s merely illuminates a light indicator that would tell the owner that there is a problem with the vehicle. One of the most exciting improvements in the automotive industry was the addition of the OBD (On Board Diagnostics). It is the computer that activates the vehicle's "CHECK ENGINE" light. OBD1 (OBD I) was designed to monitor manufacture-specific systems on cars from 1981 to 1995.
