Drops of Qunatum Time 6
Abstract
It seems that numbers govern all over the Universe as result of a program of a computer. Maybe is a metaphor of the science of computation. As consequence we have a relative sophisticate technology that has given to the mankind a glimpse of happy.
Drops of Quantum Time 6
The Numbers
Despite all these uncertainties and mysteries, what we see is a world governed by numbers - Pythagoras had said that thousands years ago. The results are plain to see: all our technology, since the screw to the most sophisticated inventions of the human mind has in its substrate a program where the result appears as numbers. Thus, the software on supercomputers allowed man to go to the Moon in July 20, 1969 thanks to the genius of the German scientist Werner Von Braun (1912-1977). Others spaceships with robots have gone to Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and its satellites, among which, Titan, the largest moon of this planet. According to the American Space Agency (NASA, 07/06/2010) there is evidence of exotic life in the lakes of methane and ethane of that moon; others, such as Pioneer 10 was the first spacecraft to cross the limits of the solar system, beyond the ex-planet Pluto. Pioneer 10 was launched in 1972 for research in deep space, and is going in the direction of Aldebaran, the brightest star in the constellation Taurus; according to NASA, it can reach there in two million years from now. It takes a golden aluminum plate on which is engraved the position of Earth in the Solar System, and the images of a man and a woman drawn with the aid of the scientist Carl Sagan. We also have the ISS (International Space Station) orbit around the Earth with astronauts who are doing research for relative long time. The goal is the planet Mars in a spacecraft whose prevision of landing there is already in the first half of the 21st century. We have the largest and most powerful particle accelerator in the world, the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN (Conseil European pour la Recherche Nucléaire) located in a ring circumference of 27km and 100m deep, near Geneva, Switzerland. That accelerator could confirm the existence of Higgs bosons, that would be the origin of the masses of elementary particles already known and would complete the scenario of the Standard Model which forsees for the existence of those particles, and can also reproduce the Big Bang in miniature. We have computerized tomography scanners, nuclear magnetic resonances, the positron emission tomography (PET), the scanning tunneling microscope, that have given to physicist Nobel Prizes, and to medical science an air of exact science with precision in medical diagnosis. We have the worldwide network of computers, the Internet, which has approached people from all over the world and give to elderly people the unlimited opportunities to distract them from the unavoidable death; even more, it has replaced the traditional encyclopedias with their search engines for any topic. And for disgrace to humanity we have large stockpiles of death as the nuclear bombs which according to a committee of scientists Nobel Prizes would have the power to destroy the Earth hundreds of times; these stocks have the most sophisticated weapon the neutron bomb that destroys only animal life. Well, the number of inventions would not fit an encyclopedia, all, without exception, managed by programs and numbers.
Conclusion
So how are all these technological advances in the face of many uncertainties of science? This incredible efficiency of mathematics is a mystery? Relativity and Quantum Mechanics, considered the two great pillars of modern science, with its heavy and sophisticated mathematics, are a challenge.
For all that, dear reader, do not rely so much on your 'logic' because...
Finally, you may say, rightly, that for the time scale of our life doesn´t matter if the Universe expand or contract in cycles over billions of years, not much this only happens in the minds of theoretical physicists. And also does not matter that within five billion years the world will end, because the Sun will explode and swallow the Earth; and also that many mathematical models of the Universe are already in the arena of Metaphysics (questions that can not be proved or disproved by scientific experiments). However it is in this fashion that science advances!
Note: the speed of the actual satellites is approximately 0.03% of the speed of light.
