The Essential Cocktail: The Art of Mixing Perfect Drinks

The Essential Cocktail: The Art of Mixing Perfect Drinks

$31

Dale DeGroff is widely regarded as the world's foremost mixologist. Hailed by the "New York Times" as "single-handedly responsible for what's been called the cocktail renaissance," he earned this reputation during his twelve years at the fashionable Promenade Bar in New York City's Rainbow Room. It was there in 1987 that he not only reintroduced the cocktail menu to the country but also began mixing drinks from scratch, using impeccably fresh ingredients instead of the widespread mixes used at the time. Known especially for crafting unique cocktails, reviving classics, and coaxing superior flavor from his ingredients, DeGroff has selected his 100 essential drinks and 100 of their best variations--including many of his signature cocktails--for this premier mixology guide. "The Essential Cocktail "features only those drinks that stand out for their flavor, interesting formula, or distinctive technique. These are the very ones every amateur and professional bartender must know, the martinis, sours, highballs, tropicals, punches, sweets, and classics, both old and new, that form the core of a connoisseur's repertoire. Throughout the book are DeGroff's personal twists, such as a tangy Grapefruit Julep or a refreshing Yuzu Gimlet. To complement the tantalizing photographs of each essential cocktail, DeGroff also regales readers with the fascinating lore behind a drink's genesis and instructs us on using the right ingredients, techniques, glasses, and garnishes. As Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" was the classic compendium for home chefs and gourmands, so "The Essential Cocktail" will be the go-to book for serious mixologists and cocktail enthusiasts.

PreSonus StudioLive 16.0.2 Digital Mixing System

PreSonus StudioLive 16.0.2 Digital Mixing System

$1299.95

Presonuss StudioLive 24.4.2 and 16.4.2 changed the game, offering amazing performance and ease of use for a great price. Now Presonus has packed the same audio quality, performance, seamlessly integrated software (including remote control) into a smaller, even more affordable package.Small size. Bigger possibilities. In a footprint of less than 2 square feet (0.19 m2), the compact, 16-channel StudioLive 16.0.2 offers 8 mono input channels and 4 stereo channels and provides 12 XMAX Class A solid-state mic preamps. (Well, okay, it actually has 13 XMAX preamps; the Talkback input has one, too.)But don't let its size fool you; the 16.0.2 is jam-packed with features and processing power, employs the same workflow and easy-to-use mixing-surface design as the bigger StudioLive boards, and sounds every bit as good, with the same high-definition, wide-dynamic-range, digital converters. The ease of analog meets the power of digital. When Presonus designed StudioLive, one of the primary goals was to provide a familiar interface that would keep all critical controls visible and accessible not buried inside multiple menus.Sit down at a StudioLive 16.0.2, and you see easily accessed, color-coded function buttons for Mute and Solo; rotary trim controls; and clearly labeled, individual knobs for EQ and dynamics processing. Aux sends have their own physical controls. Every channel has a big, bright meter display. The master section comes complete with Talkback, Monitor, Cue, and a choice of control-room sources looks just like the master section on an analog board but with far more power and flexibility.Bottom line: If youve ever used an analog mixer, youll be right at home with a 16.0.2. And even if youve never used a mixer before, youll quickly be able to create professional mixes and recordings.XMAX Class A PreamplifiersThe XMAX preamplifier runs on power rails of 30V. Most off-the-shelf, op-amp-based designs run on power rails of 10V to 18V. Higher-voltage power rails deliver more headroom, deeper lows, smoother highs, and a richer overall sound.Discrete components not op-amps. Presonus only use genuine transistors, resistors, and capacitors for ultra-low noise and transparency. Op-amps add noise, coloration, and harshness to a signal.Class A circuitry. Class A circuits have no crossover distortion and deliver purer, clearer, and more musical results than the Class AB designs that are found in many preamps. The net result of the XMAX preamp design is high headroom, low noise, wide dynamic range, extended frequency response, and most important musicality and transparency, with smooth highs; solid, deep lows; and everything in between.JetPLL synchronization technologyEase of use and powerful features only count if the sound quality is equally impressive. After all, it really comes down to how clean the signal path is and how well the mixing algorithms perform.Thats why you should choose a digital mixer made by PreSonus, a company already famous for its analog

$25.28

Having practiced yoga for more than thirty years, Audrey Pearson had always felt fit, strong, and flexible. Then one day in October of 2004, she awoke to flu-like symptoms, unable to move her limbs. These symptoms never decreased and only inflated. She was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR), a mysterious autoimmune disease; and was treated with the steroid drug Prednisone. Written in diary format, My Four-Year PMR & Prednisone Challenge describes Pearson's daily struggle not only with the disease but with managing steroid treatment and her painful journey of withdrawing from Prednisone use. She attributes her successful recovery to her long-term practice of yoga, a gentle way to optimize the flow of life energy to help a person feel their personal best at any given time. The yoga practices helped her understand the counterintuitive healing purpose of the presence of the autoimmune disease in her life. Though the four-year experience was difficult, Pearson realized that PMR was an important and strict teacher who arrived at her door to teach her tolerance and acceptance. In My Four-Year PMR & Prednisone Challenge, Pearson relates how PMR and Prednisone withdrawal was tolerated, embraced, and experienced as an opportunity for personal and spiritual transformation.
