Recent Improvements in Gravity Micro-Drip Systems.

 

The evolution of the Gravity Micro-Drip irrigation method was described in our former article (1) and the related technology and products was explained in a second article (2).  This reference technology required the use of pre-punched Micro-Tubes with the Micro-Drippers spaced 33 cm from each other, clamped on the Micro-Tubes to cover each puncture.

 

The new improved product, recently developed by “Ein-Tal” – a brand name known as one of the leading factors in micro-drip irrigation research and development in Israel - is offering a Micro-Drip Emitter that can be inserted directly into ordinary 16mm or 20mm PE tube at any spacing required by the user. Furthermore, this new Micro-Drip Emitter is cleanable by simple manual operation.

The GDIS concept is based on the idea of water flow directly from the tank into the GDIS tubing merely by force of gravity. No pump is needed and the small elevation of the tank over the ground is enough to provide small hydrostatic pressure for maintaining the flow. In fact, such very low pressure is also advantageous to generate a very low water irrigating flow rate.

 

The Vibro Flow Regulators (VFR) are available as another Ein-Tal product for three different flow rates:

12 L/H ,  27 L/H  and  45 L/H. In consideration of the nominal discharge of 0.25 L/H for each Micro-Drip Emitter, one 45 L/H VFR can regulate the water flow for a line of 180 emitters.

 

Another advantage of the new cleanable Micro-Drip Emitter is in its connection to the tube made into standard Ein-Tal Female Barb Socket. This connection utilizes the “Plug and Play” method as used for any Low Volume irrigation devices and accordingly enables to replace any single emitter by a plug. This feature can be used with either pressure or gravity water systems and is important mainly for gardening applications.
