Square D Breakers: What You Need To Know About Them
Square D is an American manufacturer of equipment and electrical supplies such as the square d breakers, busway and electronic sensors since its founding in 1903. The letter D, enclosed in a square represents Detroit.
Even when the company was acquired by a French company, Schneider Electric, Square D continued its good reputation in manufacturing and distributing equipment in controlling and distributing electric power.
The circuit breakers produced by square D are many and varied. The miniature circuit breakers protect electrical circuits from over-current by thermal and magnetic trip. They are small and protect at low amperage, between 10 and 150A.
Two products for this category are the QO(B) circuit breakers and the Multi 9 System UL 489 Miniature circuit breakers. The QO(B) features exclusive Visi-Trip Indicator to provide clear and instant identification of a tripped breaker.
The Multi 9 system carries UL 489 rating for branch circuit protection in amperage under 10A. It is also marked with CE, UL 489, and IEC 947-2. The molded square D breakers are 11, including Mission Critical circuit breakers, LE/LX molded case electronic breakers, and PowerPact D-Frame molded case breakers.
The PowerPact H-framed molded case breakers handle ratings from 15 to 150A. The PowerPact GJL molded case handle ratings from 15 to100A. The PowerPact P-frame molded case breakers handle ratings from 300 to 800A.
For 240 to 3000A ratings, the PowerPact R-frame molded is ideal. The Masterpact Universal Power circuit breakers are the industry's leading line of medium to large sizes of breakers that feature the Masterpact NT/NW series.
The Masterpact NT/NW series are UL Listed Masterpact breakers, ANSI certified Masterpact breakers and IEC rated Masterpact breakers. The UL listed is available in NT series up to 1600A and in NW series up to 6000A.
The ANSI certified is available in NT series up to 800A, and in NW series up to 5000A. And the IEC rated Masterpact has up to 1600A in the NT series, and 6300A in the NW series. The Direct Current or DC breakers are the final type of square D breakers.
To this category belong 5 different products. These are the Multi 9 C60H-DC, the 500 Vdc Thermal magnetic, Masterpact DC, and Dual rated AC/DC. The dual rates have both dc and ac ratings for application of either system.
The Masterpact dc is an insulated case circuit breaker designed for dc voltage system only. The 500 Vdc thermal-magnetic breakers serve as protection for underground systems of up to 500 Vdc nominal from 30A-2500A.
The Multi 9 C60H is designed per UL 1077 for protection against over current incidences within appliances or electrical equipment. Besides the circuit breakers, square D also provides supplementary protectors, motor circuit protectors, and ground-fault protection products.
