Bar and Kitchen Stools, The Seat Mechanism
As I promised in my last article I will write about the mechanism of the stools. You have three possibilities and all of them are good, depending what your preference is. By doing the research on the swivel mechanism it is hard to believe, how far back I had gone to find the first swivel stools.
If you go into www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bar stools, you will find all kinds of definitions when did the swivel arrive here in USA, here is some of it. According to Wikipedia the swivel was introduced or invented by Thomas Jefferson.
I guess according to history he may have seen this mechanism in Europe but he made some improvement. In some instances it has been said, that the swivel chair was introduced to the USA by Kaila Cappello. It is also mentioned that Henry Jacques (Jack) Gaisman (December 5, 1869 – August 6 1974) was a philanthropist and inventor of the safety razor, the autographic camera, and over one thousand other patents, which benefited items such as swivel chairs, men’s belts and carburetors.
Well there you have it. Let’s move on to what I am covering, in our business we have three different options which are:
- The Standard stool mechanism.
- The Swivel stool mechanism.
- The Memory Return Mechanism.
Let’s talk about the Standard Mechanism. It is a very simple, straight forward design I had mentioned before. It will not rotate for obvious reasons. But it is this feature that makes the stool a very attractive piece of furniture.
Swivel Stool Mechanism. – The 12 gauge hot roll steel plate on all our mechanisms makes this steel very strong and durable. It will rotate 360 degrees on 12 smooth-gliding carbon steel ball bearings. In a patented race way. And they are available as flat no pitch, or 3-degree pitch.
These plates are 7” square with a mounting –hole pattern of .375” corner slot of 5.25 centers with our hardware, you can be assured of a lifetime of trouble free use. Use in the toughest residential environment, in the recreational area or business.
We put top grade materials into the hands of welders, and other highly talented people in the construction of our seating products. Perhaps no other factor makes a greater contribution to the long life and dependability of your swivel seating, than the selection of swivel itself. As you can read, this is one the most important parts of the configuration of the Bar, Counter, or Gaming Stools. Combined with great fabrics and arms, will make the stools look very appealing to the eyes.
Memory Return Mechanism. - Also as I have mentioned on the Swivel, it is built with all quality materials. The difference is that this mechanism is very unique. Let me mention that this style of swivel is used on all the stools manufactured with wrought iron, and swivel stools with backs.
These plates are 7” square with a mounting –hole pattern of .375” corner slot of 5.25 centers with our hardware, you can be assured of a lifetime of trouble free use. Use in the toughest residential environment, in the recreational area or business.
The memory Return for Bar, and Counter stool swivels rotates 90 degrees to the left or right, on 12 smooth-gliding carbon- steel ball bearings. This mechanism is in a patented raceway. And this is the unique part of this mechanism, when the seat is not being used; the mechanism automatically swivels to return to the zero position with its advanced spring technology.
Ladies and gentlemen it has been my pleasure to explain a little bit more about this type of mechanism. Let me mention these three types of Mechanisms can be used in all our stools. It is my recommendation to use the swivel in all the different styles (excluding standard frame of course). And the memory return too, (except for the back less) because I don’t see the necessity there. In addition let me tell you, these Mechanisms are built here in America. And they are guaranteed for a one year, since the date of purchase
Like always I say, “This is solely the opinion of the writer, and as any article you may use as you wishes. The whole intension behind these articles is to help the consumer to make the right decision”.
About the Author
I have mentioned before after being in the Automation business for the last 30 years, I am ready for something new. Thus, I got involved in the business of stools. We have a large variety of stools and many fabric to choose. Pleasant finishes. We do like to encourage you to visit our store. Come and browse.

Contact Mechanics $85.22 This treatise is concerned with the stresses and deformation of solid bodies in contact with each other, along curved surfaces which touch initially at a point or along a line. Examples are a railway wheel and rail, or a pair of gear wheel teeth. Professor Johnson first reviews the development of the theory of contact stresses since the problem was originally addressed by H. Hertz in 1882. Next he discusses the influence of friction and the topographical roughness of surfaces, and this is incorporated into the theory of contact mechanics. An important feature is the treatment of bodies which deform plastically or viscoelastically. In addition to stationary contact, an appreciable section of the book is concerned with bodies which are in sliding or rolling contact, or which collide. |

|
Computational Contact Mechanics $139 Topics of this book span the range from spatial and temporal discretization techniques for contact and impact problems with small and finite deformations over investigations on the reliability of micromechanical contact models over emerging techniques for rolling contact mechanics to homogenization methods and multi-scale approaches in contact problems. Furthermore, solution algorithms for single- and multi-processor computing environments, enabling methods that span from multi-contact to multi-scale approaches are discussed together with numerical experiments related to soil mechanics using discontinuous deformation analysis. |

Analytical Mechanics (Hardcover) $570.2 This is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art, treatise on the energetic mechanics of Lagrange and Hamilton, that is, classical analytical dynamics, and its principal applications to constrained systems (contact, rolling, and servoconstraints). It is a book on advanced dynamics from a unified viewpoint, namely, the kinetic principle of virtual work, or principle of Lagrange. As such, it continues, renovates, and expands the grand tradition laid by such mechanics masters as Appell, Maggi, Whittaker, Heun, Hamel, Chetaev, Synge, Pars, Lur , Gantmacher, Neimark, and Fufaev. Many completely solved examples complement the theory, along with many problems (all of the latter with their answers and many of them with hints). Although written at an advanced level, the topics covered in this 1400-page volume (the most extensive ever written on analytical mechanics) are eminently readable and inclusive. It is of interest to engineers, physicists, and mathematicians; advanced undergraduate and graduate students and teachers; researchers and professionals; all will find this encyclopedic work an extraordinary asset; for classroom use or self-study. In this edition, corrections (of the original edition, 2002) have been incorporated. |

Geometric Mechanics (Hardcover) $261.48 This textbook introduces the tools and language of modern geometric mechanics to advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students in mathematics, physics, and engineering. It treats the dynamics of rotating, spinning and rolling rigid bodies from a geometric viewpoint, by formulating their solutions as coadjoint motions generated by Lie groups. The only prerequisites are linear algebra, multivariable calculus and some familiarity with Euler?Lagrange variational principles and canonical Poisson brackets in classical mechanics at the beginning undergraduate level.Variational calculus on tangent spaces of Lie groups is explained in the context of familiar concrete examples. Through these examples, the student develops skills in performing computational manipulations, starting from vectors and matrices, working through the theory of quaternions to understand rotations, and then transferring these skills to the computation of more abstract adjoint and coadjoint motions, Lie?Poisson Hamiltonian formulations, momentum maps and finally dynamics with nonholonomic constraints. The 120 Exercises and 55 Worked Answers help the student to grasp the essential aspects of the subject, and to develop proficiency in using the powerful methods of geometric mechanics. In addition, all theorems are stated and proved explicitly. The book`s many examples and worked exercises make it ideal for both classroom use and self-study. |

Classical Mechanics Illustrated by Modern Physics (Paperback) $107.7 In many fields of modern physics, classical mechanics plays a key role. However, the teaching of mechanics at the undergraduate level often confines the applications to old-fashioned devices such as combinations of springs and masses, pendulums, or rolling cylinders. This book provides an illustration of classical mechanics in the form of problems (at the bachelor level) inspired ? for most of them ? by contemporary research in physics, and resulting from the teaching and research experience of the authors. A noticeable feature of this book is that it emphasizes the experimental aspects of a large majority of problems. All problems are accompanied by detailed solutions: the calculations are clarified and their physical significance commented in depth. Within the solutions, the fundamental concepts from undergraduate lectures in classical mechanics necessary to solve the problem are recalled when needed. The authors systematically mention recent bibliographical references (most of them freely accessible via the Internet) allowing the reader to deepen his understanding of the subject, and thus contributing to the building of a general culture in physics. |
