Find a Custom Cut Rug Pad for Best Performance

If you have a rug and are looking for a rug pad, it is always best to find a custom rug pad that is perfectly sized for your rug size. Every rug pad should be about one inch less on all sides than the rug size. This lets the edges of the rug fall flat onto the hard floor and prevents any sight of the rug pad sticking out. Since many area rugs are not perfect to the size of rug pads offered in packages, it is best to find a store that custom cuts the rug pads based on the size of the rug.

If you purchase an 8'x10' rug, you may very well find that it measures 7'10"x10'5". This means that an 8'x10' rug pad will be too wide and too short for your rug. Once the rug pad is cut to the size of this rug, the proper rug pad size should be 7'8"x10'3", which means one inch less on all four sides. This plays a big role in preventing wear to your rug and preventing accidents. When the edge of the rug is raised off the floor due to the rug pad, heels of shoes will keep rubbing the edge and eventually cause premature wear. Another thing that can happen with raised rug edges is tripping with shoes getting caught on the edge of the rug.

Unless you know the packaged rug pad you are buying is an exact fit for your actual rug size, you should try to find a store that offers custom cut rug pads or you will find yourself having to trim the rug pad yourself, which can be a chore in itself. There may be a local rug dealer in your area that offers rug pads on rolls which allow him to cut the pad to the exact size you need. I know there is an online store that offers a quality rug pad called Durahold Plus and they ask for your rug size in the order so that they can custom cut the rug pad.
