Home Remedies for Jaw Pain - How to Rid of Tooth Pain

Jaw pain is not all that uncommon among people these days, and if you have experienced it, you know that it is just plain uncomfortable. TMJ, or Temporomandibular Joint disorders, is often caused by unsymmetrical chewing patterns, tightness of the neck, and head posture.

You can identify this by pain or tenderness of the jaw, clicking, popping, and locking jaw, inability to open the mouth wide, facial swelling, a tired feeling face, or an off-center bite. If you have this type of problem, trying myofascial release for jaw pain is a great choice for a long term relief of this uncomfortable condition.

Natural Treatment and Medication

Massage

Jaw muscles that are excessively tense can also cause jaw pain, so massaging can help relax them. A vibrating back-massage tool can be used to loosen the muscles by applying it to the painful area of the jaw. Hand massage is also effective to relax the jaw muscles.

Medication

Relief from jaw pain can often be found in over-the-counter analgesic products such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen and aspirin. If the pain is caused by inflammation, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen tend to be more effective for pain relief. For stronger treatment medication, seek specialized care.

Compresses

Alternating hot and cold compresses can relieve some jaw pain. Apply a cold compress, frozen vegetables or an ice pack wrapped in a washcloth to the jaw for 10 minutes once per hour. In between applications of cold compresses, hot compresses can relax jaw muscles and increase blood circulation to the area. Apply a hot, but not scalding, washcloth to the affected area for up to 20 minutes at a time

Food

Vitamin A

Foods rich in Vitamin A will provide you with nutrients that allow natural healing and repair of tissues. Osteoporosis as a cause of back pain is due to the degeneration of spinal bones.

Magnesium

Magnesium is important in promoting proper muscle contractions and to keep your muscles toned. It helps in the inclusion of nutrients that can add compactness to our bones. Vegetables that are green and leafy, whole grain breads, beans, nuts, seeds, shrimps, bananas and a lot more can provide us with sufficient amounts of magnesium.
