When adding to a lighting circuit in your home, you should consult a licensed professional to ensure that you are not over extending that circuit. If you are planning to do it yourself and splicing into existing circuit that the connections are tight, always use wire nits and that the connections are in a rated electrical box, in addition that the box is always accessible and never covered over. You are better off connecting to an existing light switch, but always ensure of the total amount of wattage.
