Big Rides: The Volkswagen T5 Vs. Ford E-150

Full-size cargo vans are usually used in a lot of businesses. The large size and load capacity of cargo vans make it very ideal for operations that require the transport of heavy loads or large number of people. Two famous models of cargo vans excel in this category. The Ford E-150 is currently considered as one of the most favoured cargo vans in the United States because it has what it takes to accommodate the transport needs of large families and big guys. On the other hand, the Volkswagen T5 is the latest version of VW's series of cargo transport vans which is known for its size and versatility. These two cargo vans almost have the same shape and dimension but which one really is a better pick?

As inscribed in the automotive repair manuals, the T5 is ideal for small businesses and also for private buyers. It boasts mainly of its engine and fuel efficiency. Amazingly, ESP and ABS are attached to this model which is not common for a full size cargo van. T5 also garnered 5 stars from crash tests making it a very reliable vehicle in relating to safety. The machine runs on a 2.0-litre, four cylinder turbo diesel that can produce 103k/w of power at 3500rpm and around 340 Nm of torque when operated between 1750-2500 rpm. In addition, the VW T5 has a maximum speed of 170km/h. The interior of the Volkswagen T5 includes a three-spoke steering wheel, touch screen satellite navigation, quality audio, and safety devices such as rear parking camera, hill-start assist, blind-spot alert and tyre pressure monitoring. The T5 can tow a maximum of 7500 lbs. Load it with heavy furniture and other things that you would like and it will still run very smoothly. The T5 is also the most preferred vehicle for ambulances. It costs around $28,000.

Another famous full size cargo van is the Ford E-150. It is being powered by a 225-horsepower 4.6-liter V-8, and a 255-HP, 5.4-litre V-8 engines depending on the version. Engines are matched with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The key feature of the Ford F-150 is the Ford Work Solutions package that offers in-dash computer with wireless accessories, a radio frequency ID programs that assist you in tracking the tools stored in the van, crew chief, and a communication diagnostics system. Dual front airbags are also included together with 4-wheel anti-lock brakes. However, this model only acquired a three star rating from crash tests which is 2 starts lower than the VW T5. The Ford E-150 has a price exceeding $30,000.

In terms of features, Ford E-150 is more advanced compared to VW T5 mainly because of higher horsepower of the engine as well as the computer system installed in the vehicle. However, the extra horsepower is already unnecessary because it only increases the gasoline consumption of the machine. The built-in computers are also a waste of money because it is cargo size van so it is built for heavy-duty transport and not entertainment during rides. It may have a lower horsepower but it is already powerful enough for its class. Not to mention that it is also more affordable.
