Oil And Filter Change By Yourself

Because of the way that most quick-lube shops do business, fewer and fewer people have been turning to them for regular oil change as well as oil filter change. So how do these people change their oil and oil filter?

As challenging as it may sound, changing your oil as well as your oil filter is can actually be done in a breeze. All you need to prepare are some rags, a ratchet, an oil filter wrench, funnel, oil catch or recycle container, your new oil, and your new oil filter.

The first thing that you have to do is to drain whatever oil there is in your engine. Make sure that recycle container is positioned correctly in order to catch the oil that would be flowing out once you remove the oil drain plug. Once you have drained out the oil, replace the plug securely. Now, with the use of your oil filter wrench, remove your old oil filter by turning it clockwise until it comes off.

Most auto repair Atlanta Georgia centers would recommend that, before you put the new filter, you should lubricate first the rubber gaskets with the new oil before filling the filter up with about 2/3 of the new oil. Carefully and securely place the new oil filter and place. Make sure that you do not screw it too tightly nor loosely as this could result to leaks.
