Women's Issues on Truck Driving Job
Truck driving is still a man-dominated industry, but the number of women who are working as truck drivers are also increasing significantly. This is because of the high demand on truck drivers thus companies have to diversify in their hiring practices.
Being a truck driver is not an easy job especially for women but she can still do great on this job and be as competitive if she posses the knowledge and skills needed. Here are some things that a female driver should know in order to survive and ensure success in truck driving industry.
To become a success female truck driver, she must have good driving skills. This is something that is also needed even for a male driver. Being a safe driver is always an edge in order to succeed in trucking jobs.
Safety is also another issue for female drivers. As a female driver, you must always be aware of keeping yourself and your loads safe all the time. You must be cautious specially if you are driving alone. Here are some safety guidelines to follow. This is applicable not only for female drivers but for all drivers in general.
" Have an ID with you at all time
" Do not wear luxurious looking jewelries that might attract robbers
" Do not carry a purse, instead use a wallet that can be placed on pocket
" Be cautious in choosing where to sleep. Don't sleep near ATM's. Choose to sleep on known safe areas.
" Do not bring huge amount of money. Just bring the smallest amount of cash on hand.
" Keep your destination and the kind of load you are carrying to yourself alone. Revealing them to other people might bring harm to you.
" Lock your doors at all times. This is a must to prevent other people or a stranger entering your vehicle without your permission and this will ensure great safety for you.
" If you take a pet with you, only take them in well lighted areas.
A female truck driver must also reminded that truck driving can also be boring at times specially when you are alone driving on the road, and you should always be alert and awake even alone. Anyway, truck driving job can also be a great career for women who long solitude.
But if you are someone who don't like the idea of being alone, being on solitude, you can choose to drive on team. Usually, female drivers drive with their spouses. It is a better option and many couples already succeed working together as a team in truck driving job.
Health is another factor that a female driver should consider. Just like with male drivers, trucking brings some health risks for them like having high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease and many others as a result of not eating healthy. We all know that most truckers go for fast foods which offer less healthy foods.
Lack of exercise is another thing that contributes in developing some disease to a trucker, that's why it's advisable for a trucker to have an exercise every once in a while. It will be good if they will do some walking and stretching every time they do a stop and again exercise whenever possible. Lack of exercise will make your body weak.
It will also be helpful to avoid gaining too much weight to eat properly and go for healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables and others that are low in fat, sugar, sodium. This will lessen the chances of getting a disease.
And lastly, keep hydrated. Drinking a lot of water will be great for a healthy you.
With these knowledge on hand, a female driver can now be more competitive and more ready in facing the challenge and succeeding in truck driving job.
