How Heavy Duty Axles Differ?
Heavy duty axles are available in many makes and models with varying architecture and designs across the United States. While their overall functionality remains the same, they are different in many ways and one can easily tell one apart from the other upon visual inspection. There are technical variables as well that can aid in differentiating between the different types of heavy axles.
This will be the focus of today's article as we shed some light on how heavy duty axles differ in various ways.
- Front and Rear Heavy Duty Axles
Not all axles are created equal. Depending on where they go underneath the chassis of the ATV or truck and whether the rig is a front wheel drive or rear wheel, these axles vary significantly in design and use. Those made for the right side of the vehicle/truck differ from those on the left side. They can only be used for their respective sides and cannot be used interchangeably.
- Different Heavy Duty Axles for Trucks and Automobiles
These axles are largely used in heavy vehicles such as trucks, buses and ATVs. They are also used in some midsize and full size vehicles such as pick-up trucks and sports utility vehicles. These axles greatly differ according to the size of the vehicle. The ones used in 18 wheelers greatly a lot in shape and size compared to ATV vehicles even though both are classified as heavy duty axles.
- Tri-axles and Quad Axles
Many vehicles especially large ones use more axles than the conventional two for locomotion. Those vehicles are named after number of axles they use. Tri-axle and Quad Axle vehicles are just a few examples of vehicles that use multiple types and variations of heavy axles. Each uses three and four axles in its assembly respectively. They are mainly used on vehicles used to relocate large heavy merchandize over long distances. Factoring that, along with the vehicle's size and capacity, many companies add extra axles to aid the vehicle in transportation and maneuverability. Many ATVs use quad-axles by default.
Hopefully this will clear up the confusion pertaining to the different types of heavy duty axles. Many vehicle enthusiasts and experts have found the above mentioned tips to be very helpful. Whether you are working on a car, a pickup truck or an ATV, there are certain restrictions on what kind of axle you can use depending on the type and size of your rig. Always ask professionals for advice when it comes to axles. Not only will they answer all your queries and provide you with sound advice, they will also help you find the right axle.
