Different Types Of Medical Diagnostic Products
Do you think only doctors use medical diagnostic products in their clinics and hospitals? As people are becoming more health conscious than ever before, the basic diagnostic products have included themselves in the first aid box of almost every household. Thermometers, blood pressure monitors and heart rate monitors are some of the basic medical devices that can be found in the first aid kit of nearly 75% of the homes in the US.
Medical Diagnostic Products for Household Use
Below are some of the medical diagnostic products that are commonly used in almost every house:
1.Thermometers: A thermometer works on the basis of a temperature sensor, which records any change in temperature and converts this change into a value. This value can be read on the thermometer scale in Celsius as well as Fahrenheit. Digital thermometers provide a digital display.
2.Blood pressure monitors: Blood pressure monitors are used to check the rate at which blood is flowing unobstructed in the body. Manual, digital and electronic blood pressure monitors are available in the market. Manual monitors, however, provide more accurate results and are ideally used by a trained person.
3.Blood glucose monitors: A blood glucose monitor is used to check the concentration of glucose in the blood. A small drop of blood is obtained by piercing the finger. This droplet is then placed on a chemically active disposable strip. The device reads the input and decodes it in the form of a digital display on the monitor.
Medical Diagnostic Products for Clinical Use
Apart from the aforementioned products, here are some medical diagnostic products that are used only in hospitals and medical clinics:
1.Stethoscope: An acoustic stethoscope works on the basis of transmission of sound from the body to the listener's ears through air filled hollow tubes. However, it has a very low audio output and to overcome this limitation, the electronic stethoscope has come into the picture. An electronic stethoscope converts the sound waves to electronic signals, which are then amplified for optimal listening.
2.Colposcope: This is a medical device used to get an enlarged view of the uterus and vagina. Many women undergo colposcopic examination to diagnose cervical cancer by spotting precancerous cells.
3.Laryngoscope: Laryngoscope provides a magnified view of the throat and glottis and is used to diagnose voice problems, throat pain, ear pain and lumps in the throat.

Diagnostic Hysteroscopy $54 The diagnostic investigation of menstrual dysfunction and sterility is a routine part of gynaecological practice. Hysteroscopy can expand the spectrum of diagnostic possibilities. The 2nd revised edition of this handbook aims to familiarise the gynaecologist with diagnostical hysteroscopy. About 100 colour plates facilitate the acquisition of this technique as well as the correct assessment of findings. The book is conceived for newcomers to hysteroscopy and should contribute to the further establishment of this method. 2nd revised edition 90 case studies of gynaecological practice |

Diagnostic Measurement $50 This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of diagnostic classification models (DCMs), which are useful for statistically driven diagnostic decision making. DCMs can be employed in a wide range of disciplines, including educational assessment and clinical psychology. For the first time in a single volume, the authors present the key conceptual underpinnings and methodological foundations for applying these models in practice. Specifically, they discuss a unified approach to DCMs, the mathematical structure of DCMs and their relationship to other latent variable models, and the implementation and estimation of DCMs using Mplus. The book's highly accessible language, real-world applications, numerous examples, and clearly annotated equations will encourage professionals and students to explore the utility and statistical properties of DCMs in their own projects. The companion website (projects.coe.uga.edu/dcm) features data sets, Mplus syntax code, and output. |

Statistical Methods in Diagnostic Medicine $161 An important role of diagnostic medicine research is to estimate and compare the accuracies of diagnostic tests. This book provides a comprehensive account of statistical methods for design and analysis of diagnostic studies, including sample size calculations, estimation of the accuracy of a diagnostic test, comparison of accuracies of competing diagnostic tests, and regression analysis of diagnostic accuracy data. Discussing recently developed methods for correction of verification bias and imperfect reference bias, methods for analysis of clustered diagnostic accuracy data, and meta-analysis methods, Statistical Methods in Diagnostic Medicine explains: * Common measures of diagnostic accuracy and designs for diagnostic accuracy studies * Methods of estimation and hypothesis testing of the accuracy of diagnostic tests * Meta-analysis * Advanced analytic techniques-including methods for comparing correlated ROC curves in multi-reader studies, correcting verification bias, and correcting when an imperfect gold standard is used Thoroughly detailed with numerous applications and end-of-chapter problems as well as a related FTP site providing FORTRAN program listings, data sets, and instructional hints, Statistical Methods in Diagnostic Medicine is a valuable addition to the literature of the field, serving as a much-needed guide for both clinicians and advanced students. |
