The most inexpensive answer to auto body repairs is Paintless dent repair...and these repairs can be done by you with just a little bit of direction.

Not only is body shop work very expensive, it is also quite inconsistent, especially with tough colors to match like white, silver, and black.

Paintless dent repair can be done with the magic of just 4 things: (1) Tools (and they don't have to be professional tools!); (2) A good light; (3) Patience; (4) An eye for detail.

The first thing to do is gather your light and place it against the vehicle, pointing towards you with the dent between the light and you.

The second thing is to ready your tool of choice that is long enough and angled enough to reach the dent be able to strongly press against it.

The third thing is to find the access point to enter the cavity of the body panel. The doors can be accessed by easily pulling the rubber boot from any door plug hole (in the door jam of the door), while allowing the wiring to remain as it is (the rubber boot is used as a wire protector and can easily be replaced back to its normal position when you're done).

Now it's time to begin!

Make certain you have a well-taped end to your chosen tool so as not to cause un-wanted panel dimples. Insert the tool through the door plug hole until you reach the dent with the tip of the tool (you will be able to see the tool by looking down the panel where the light is shining over the dent at you - this is where you will keep your eye view!).

SPECIAL NOTE: You can't press too softy, but you can press too hard...so be gentle.

Once you find the dent spot with the tool, move the tool in a circle around the dent into you "feel" the tool reach the center of the dent.

Begin to press outward on the dent and then back off. Press outward again and back off...continue this rhythmic motion until the dent disappears.

Depending on the size of the dent, it will take anywhere from 15 gentle presses up to 100 presses (for really big dents!).

Once the dent has been flattened, you may see very faint "high spots" from where you were pressing.

That's normal.

Now, take a tap hammer (or light hammering instrument) and plastic rod with a point (like a pointed plastic chisel) and make light taps to flatten the "high spots".

SPECIAL NOTE: The metal wants to go back to where it started. It's called, "Metal Memory". As you bend and tap, the metal will gladly follow your lead as long as you're gentle.
