Shaving Cutters

Shaving cutters are the instruments used to impart a shaving finish to the instruments and have numerous cutting teeth on their periphery, to perform the function. A large number of spiteful edges are shaped on the edges of the thread of the cutter. Each sharp edge is tending along an arc or a straight line in the straggling direction as seen in the direction of turning around of the cutter in use. Gear shaving is the most economical and efficient refinement process in the tool industry for providing high precision and high surface finish tooth profiles of gears. Generally, the meshing action between the pitch surface of a shaving cutter and the associated gear are in crossed axes. Therefore, in order to discharge the hair-like chips the shaving cutter has a relief portion at the root. Gear shaving is basically a finishing operation.

Plunge shaving is particularly good for shaving of shoulder gear.
