In what seems one of the most pointless races since the 150 meter race where two superstar athletes we paid an obscene amount of money to take a bit part in (Michael Johnson pulled up soon after the race began) it seems they gone and done it again but this time at 700m!

The event will be held between Usain Bolt, yes the 100 and 200 meter World Record holder and Kenenisa Bekele the 5000 meter Gold medalist from Ethiopia. Now why they decided to go ahead with a distance neither are really familiar or even comfortable with is anyones guess. Most sprinters hate longer distances, and even Bolt used to run the 400 but admitted he hated it as it was hard training. This 700m could even effect his performances in the 100 and 200meters.

Bekele on the other hand is a specialist long distance runner, but at thousands and not hundereds of meters, so why he feels it necessary to partake in such a strange event is something most will not be able to grasp.

The main reason for this event is obviously for money, hopefully it will all goto charity but even if it does, I find it hard to believe that the public will want to see greats at their distances racing at a distance they are probably no good at. Perhaps they should put in 1 or 2 specialist 800 meter champions to show them what a mistake it is to race at this distance.
