Boston 2010 BMW manufacturers planning to remain "Aktiv" in road safety

What is the future of travel? No less than safety, efficiency and comfort for every traveler and technology in the automotive industry in literally paving the way toward that goal with a partnership of 28 different groups in the auto industry from developers of electronics, software, and telecommunications  as well as research institutes and highway transport authorities.

All these entities have come together in a German project called Aktiv, which stands for Adaptive und Koopertative Technologein fur den Intelligenten Verkehr. In English it's pretty much the same – Adaptive and Cooperative Technologies for Intelligent Traffic. Boston 2010 BMW customers will appreciate that such innovations are being developed to benefit them in the future.

What exactly will these innovations do, you ask? (I asked as well.) Well, a number of things. The Active Safety project has already helped improve traffic safety in Germany and with what they have studies regarding traffic flow; they developed better navigation systems for vehicles. Creating systems which allow the vehicle to detect driver inattention and potential collisions are also part of the project.

One system the group has developed is Active Hazard Braking. Going above and beyond lessening the impact of a collision, as most current similar systems do, this system attempts to completely eliminate front and rear end collisions with laser scanners and monitors on the front and side and radar to the rear. The driver can be alerted and, if necessary, the brakes are automatically applied to avoid the collision. Customers of the Boston BMW dealer will really appreciate this safety feature.

The BMW Group also has a branch called Car2x communications, which is working on the exchange of data between vehicles and with traffic infrastructures. Data from other drivers can be used within this technology to help avoid accidents. More advanced work on this was done through the Intersection Assistance project, which warns the driver in numerous ways of an impending collision or a vehicle with the right-of-way in an intersection will have extra side lights, headlights, etc. activated by the system.

The group has even more projects in the works, including Integrated Lateral Assistance, Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety and Driver Awareness and Safety. Boston 2010 BWM dealers look forward to seeing this technology implemented in the United States.

There are already traffic information firms who are expanding the data available to drivers, but this is just the beginning according to BMW officials. "We are only at the start of this journey and the future will bring us a wealth of new information sources. In particular, aggregators like Google and the virtual communities of Facebook, Twitter or MySpace will exploit their strengths to flood the market with information offers, some of them free of charge. But in all of this, one thing will tend to be generally overlooked: the customer's desire for reliable, high-grade information," said BMW's Dr Irina Matschke.

Matschke added that the BMW Group has come far enough to have a connection between all the information sources so that drivers can see from the beginning of a journey what their drive might look like and be given the best and worst case scenarios.
