Blast Cleaning

You may or may not know much about blast cleaning, but it can often be seen as a fascinating process that works wonders for steel cleaning or more commonly for brick cleaning purposes. It can be used to clean oil or for particle removal, as well as removing old paint or rust, using a blasting process.

It is often possible to vary the air pressure, in order to achieve a different result, depending on how much material need to be removed or smoothed. The equipment needed for blast cleaning can be lorry mounted for easy transportation and movement, allowing for mobile blast cleaning; this makes it simple to clean things such as brickwork, concrete, glass, stone, steel and timber.

Blast cleaning can be used to treat osmosis on boats and other shipping vessels. Osmosis occurs when water in high concentrations moves through a semi-permeable membrane into an area of low water concentration. Therefore, if a boat is in water for a long period of time, and is then dry-docked, it will experience the osmosis process; producing areas of bubbling in the areas where the boat is under water. Sandblasting can therefore be used to treat cases of osmosis, removing rust from affected areas; these include areas of steel, fibreglass and timber.

For work on land such as brickwork, blast cleaning can also work wonders. Any grime or dirt that is lodged into the brickwork can be removed. This grime will cause the brickwork to fade or lose its colour, and so when treated, your brickwork will immediately seem brighter and as if it was new again. This can also be true for use on painted surfaces, where paint has become grimy and tired looking, therefore reviving its former condition.

Blast cleaning can be used in both residential and industrial situations, for homes, work spaces, factory surfaces, and even bridges and concrete riverbanks. Almost any type of brick can be cleaned, including red and white bricks that are made of clay and sand.

Areas being prepared for such work must be surveyed prior to work commencing, to be sure that the right methods are being used for the particular job; as well as the correct cleaning agents and pressure levels. The process involves stages of cleaning, rinsing and neutralisation.

As with all types of contracted work, it is important to seek out the right workers for the job, making sure they are both of a high standard, and reasonably priced. It is a good idea to draw up a contact for the work if a large amount is being done, or if it is a costly job. This will ensure that all parties are happy with the work being carried out, as well as making sure that it takes place to a schedule and is completed to the correct standards, using certified methods.
